Patriot Run IV

EVENTS - VIET NAM VETS M/C USA NC I rode in the Patriot Run yesterday.  I left out of here @ 5am in a light to medium drizzle.  I rode down to Ft Bragg arriving about 0745 @ the Fisher House.  We left there around 0830 with an MP escort on base to go to VFW Robert R. Miller Post #9103.  There were about a dozen of us initially.  After sitting around the VFW for a while we pulled out with a Harnett County Sheriff escort and about 150 bikes.  We took off up 210 towards Raleigh doing about 65mph double file.  What a ride that was looking back in your mirror going over the hills and seeing nothing but bikes as far back as you can see.  We got to the State Capital around 1100 and met up with about another 20 bikes or so.  We had a little presentation there at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial reading the names of those that are still MIA from NC (44 people)

We left out of there about 1230 and headed for the VFW Stanley McLeod Post #5631 in Sanford.  We arrived there about 1330.  There we were treated to a nice meal of BBQ, Slaw, and Boston Baked Beans.  Plenty of cold beer was available at their bar as well as some cold soda.  We had riders of all varieties, Folks from the VNVMC of NC, NC Legion Riders from Post 144, Post 116, and Post 71.  There were members of various chapters of Rolling Thunder NC, U.S. Military Vets M/C and other organizations I didn’t’ catch the names of our just don’t remember.  All total I put on 315 miles in about 13 hours, man was butt sore/ numb when I got home, but it was a blast.  I am looking forward to next years Ride already.  It should be on or about April 7th next year.  Next event for me will be the Outer Banks Bike Rally next weekend April 7-9 2006, it is held in Grandy, NC at Barry’s Walnut Island.

Getting Ready

  • Mood:

Well I would say things are on track for getting an American Legion Riders Association going here in 4th District Deparrtment of North Carolina.   We are looking at Post 13 in Wilson as our Sponsor Post.  I have talked with a couple members of the Tar River Basin Chapter of Concerned Bikers Association a Legionaire From Post 58,in Rocky Mount, a Member of the Sons of the American Legion, and the Commander of Post 17 in Wilson.  There seems to be enough interest in the ALR to get a chapter going.  I have gotten the website about as ready to go and up as I can at this point.  After our first meeting or 2 we should have our Officers lined up and maybe a few things on the calendar.  We should also hopefully be able to post a pic or 2 in the photo albums.  Wish us luck at this point and stay tuned for further news.
